One of the definitions of a portfolio is given by Collins as –

“A portfolio is a set of pictures by someone, or photographs of examples of their work, which they use when enteringcompetitions or applying for work.” (collinsdictionary.com, 2019)

Although the content of this module is not artistic in nature, this online portfolio is intended to be a example of my academic work.

Cyberspace, Identity and Youth.

The module that will be focus of this portfolio has a central concept of youth and the internet. This generation (my age and younger) has grown up with the use of technology from an early age, with social media platforms and general technology taking a central role in our lives. Alongside the modules contemporary focus, it also explores the use of this technology (and specifically, cyberspace) as a social practice.

We see here in the above infographic, that 75% of young people claimed that they could not live without the internet.

86% stated that they ‘love’ how technology allows them to communicate with people.

Portfolio plan.

Taking lead from the assessment brief, this portfolio is designed to “resemble a journal or scrapbook” reflection of the module. Each post will be based around each week of teaching, although they are not intended to be full interpretations of this work – they will contain both my reflection of the content and a few key points. I will explore the ideologies, discourses and debates surrounding the topics presented to us in addition to adding my own material.

I also aim to explore sociological arguments about the intersection between society, technology and cyberspace. This includes recurring themes in the literature and lecture slides.
